After Nagasaki John and I took several trains (from fast to slow) to get to pension Angelica which is conveniantly located close to Aso National Park and run by a very friendly family. The owner of the pension, 36 six year old Tatsuji, is a fabulous cook. The first two days we were there we got 8-course dinners which in our book could rate Michelin stars
While we were at Angelica`s we visited the Takochiho Gorge, said to be the birthplace of the Japanese where God struck the earth with his spear. The day after we went to Mount Aso, a live volcano, which at first we couldn`t visit because of the wind blowing the poisonous gases directly in the direction of the tourist viewpoints. Luckily later that afternoon the wind turned and we were able to inhale all the gases we wanted
Around Mount Aso there were different interesting spots John and I visited. Since I just suck bigtime at remembering or pronouncing Japanese names, I suggest you look at the pictures to know what I am talking about.
Our next stop will be Kurokawa, the number one Onsen village (more upper-class than Beppu) in the whole of Japan. It consist of 24 different Ryokan (Japanese traditional guesthouse) each with their own variety of Onsens (indoor, outdoor, same-sex, mixed-sex, different kinds of minerals) and is home to only 400 Japanese.

Love Mir
