The final destination of our USA-trip; The Big Apple.
Our time in New York started out with a surprise. Unfortunately, not one of the good kind. Apparently something went wrong with our hotel reservation. When we arrived at the reception of our hotel we were told that we had a booking for the 6th-12th of February instead of the 6th-12th of June. Funny thing is that both John and I during all those months didn’t spot the wrong dates on our reservation confirmation. Luckily we were still able to get rooms, although at a slightly higher rate. On top of that they had already charged us with a ‘no show’ for the first day in February. During the days that followed I was able to get the no show reversed and we were reimbursed for the full amount. Which of course meant: MO’ SHOPPING MONEY!!!!
Besides the standard highlights (like Central Park, the MOMA, American Museum of Natural History, Soho, Ground Zero, etc., etc…) one sees when visiting New York, we also had a multiple evening get together with Erik Hup, our former Advies Overheid.nl programme manager of ICTU.
The three of us went out for drinks on the roof terrace of the expensive Pasadena hotel (12 bucks a beer!), survived some standup comedy in one of New York’s well known comedy clubs and celebrated John’s 34th birthday at the hippest Thai in town, Kittichai in Soho.
But of course one thing topped it all…. the Broadway musical Wicked!!!!
Since John is not a musical fan and I only needed one ticket, I was able to get a great (=expensive) seat on short notice and enjoy the spectacle from up close. When this musical hits theatres in Holland, I will definitely get tickets again!
At the moment I’m typing this we’re already been over a week since we came back home. John has started work again and I’m starting my new job at VKA the 1st of July.
Luckily another travel plan is already in the making
If all goes well, coming January/February a 3-4 week trip to Chile and Easter Island is my (and hopefully our) next stop!!!
